HET DIE KERK ‘N “MESSIAS VIRUS”?

Ek lees Eugene Peterson se boek The Pastor: A Memoir. Eugene Peterson skryf:

“The messianic virus, which can so easily decimate the pastoral vocation once it finds a host (me!), is hard to get rid of.”

Hierdie “messias virus” het my sommer regop laat sit. Eugene Peterson sê die gevolg van die virus was dat hy op ‘n ander manier na sy gemeente gekyk het.

“… I realized in myself a latent messianic complex, which given free reign, would have obscured the very nature of congregation by redefining it as a gathering of men and women whom I was in charge of helping with their problems.

Volgens hom het hierdie “messias kompleks” tot gevolg gehad dat sy fokus geskuif het.
