DIE WAARDE VAN STILTE (II)

John Frye maak hierdie opmerkings:

“What is a spiritual discipline? It is simply a human activity that creates a space or setting for God to work. I do mean for God to work and work mightily. I now understand for example, that solitude and silence are not activities that earn God’s favor or blessing. They are simply practices I choose to do that position me to receive God’s favor or blessing. Since this is true, I would be a fool to be negligent in practicing these two significant, time honored behaviours.”

“Dallas Willard did the church a remarkable service in calling us to seriously consider not only Jesus’ teachings, but also his very way of life. Jesus’ way of life models a consistent practice of the spiritual disciplines. Christlikeness without the pratice of the disciplines is an absolutely absurdity and impossibility.”

“Christlikeness – what an incredible concept! Think about. The heavenly Father has purposed that his salvation shape us into the image of his Son (Rom 8:29).

(Rom. 8:29)

God alleen kan hierdie werk in my doen.

Jou gedagtes?

Dis ‘n wonderwerk dat God so ‘n werk in my kan doen. Romeine 8:29 is ‘n ongelooflike skrifgedeelte.

First of all, God foreknew us in eternity past. This was not a mere intellectual knowledge. As far as knowledge is concerned, He knew everyone who would ever be born. But His foreknowledge embraced only those whom He foreordained or predestined to be conformed … to the image of His Son. So it was knowledge with a purpose that could never be frustrated. It is not enough to say that God foreknew those whom He realized would one day repent and believe. Actually it is His foreknowledge that insures eventual repentance and belief.
That ungodly sinners should one day be transformed into the image of Christ by a miracle of grace is one of the most astounding truths of divine revelation. The point is not, of course, that we will ever have the attributes of deity, or even that we will have Christ’s facial resemblance, but that we will be morally like Him, absolutely free from sin, and will have glorified bodies like His.
In that day of glory He will be the firstborn among many brethren. Firstborn here means first in rank or honor. He will not be One among equals, but the One who has the supreme place of honor among His brothers and sisters.

Ek wil so graag verander en meer soos Jesus wees, ek bid dat God hierdie wonderwerk in my lewe sal doen. Ja, ek kan sien hoe my geestelike dissiplines God se werkswinkel is.

Ek hou daarvan.
